Wintour turned 59 earlier this month. Former Vogue editor Grace Mirabella left the magazine at 59, having been edged out by Anna, who's now helmed Vogue for twenty years. With all the budget cuts at Condé and Vogue's flagging newsstand sales, now might not be a bad time to bow out. All the same, wouldn't a perfectionist like Anna want to leave on a high note? We don't want to see her go because we're obsessed with her, and though the world's other Vogue editors who have been rumored to replace Anna are fierce, none are nearly as fearsome.
Besides, what would Anna do without Vogue? Languish in her house on Mastic Beach? She is expanding the gym and adding a new garage out there. She could just work out all the time. And impress Roger Federer with her guns.
